Paralegal Pathway Certificate Program

Description:

The Paralegal Pathway Certificate is designed for those who wish to earn a Certification in Paralegal Skills as quickly as possible.

This is a fast-paced program consisting of intensive concentration in legal research using Westlaw® (and other techniques), legal interviewing, legal investigation and litigation assistantship. The course also explores the use of computers in a law office and basic law office administration.

Upon satisfactory completion of this course, the student is awarded a Paralegal Pathway Certificate.

Curriculum Overview:

Week 1: Legal Research Part 1: Introduction

  • Interactive Professor/Student Discussion Board
  • Reading Assignment: "Legal Research"
  • Paralegal Skills Assignment (extra credit)

Week 2: Legal Research Part 2:  Legal Analysis

  • Interactive Professor/Student Discussion
  • Reading Assignments: "Introduction to Legal Analysis" and "Legal Interviewing"
  • Paralegal Skills Assignment (extra credit)

Week 3: Legal Research Part 3: Litigation Assistantship

  • Interactive Professor/Student Discussion Board
  • Reading Assignment: "Litigation Assistantship"

Week 4: Legal Research Part 3: Legal Writing

  • Interactive Professor/Student Discussion Board
  • Reading Assignment: "Legal Writing"
  • Paralegal Skills Assignment (extra credit)

Week 5: Special Research Project

  • Hands-On Paralegal Skills Assessment: Three-Part Legal Research and Writing assignment - prepare a short memorandum.

Week 6: Introduction to the Use of Computers in the Law Office

  • Interactive Professor/Student Discussion Board
  • Reading Assignment: "An Introduction to the Use of Computers in a Law Office"
  • Paralegal Skills Assignment (extra credit)

Week 7: Comprehensive Quiz

  • The quiz is administered online through our interactive online classroom environment.
